These are the 50 acts of kindness that are part of my challenge. Sone require little to no effort or time. For those that do, I've provided some helpful tips. Remember, every bit of kindness helps make the world a better place.
- Smile and compliment a stranger.
- Post inspiring notes for people to find around the city.
- Leave an inspirational note or bookmark in a library book.
- Donate books you have read to the library.
- Let someone go in front of you at the checkout line.
- Read a book to someone or give someone a favorite book of yours.
- Donate your unused clothes.
- Write to your partner/best friend a list of things you love about them.
- Call your parents or a family member to say you love them.
- Give a small gift to someone just because.
- Thank policemen or firemen for the work that they do.
- Write a thank you note to someone who has made a difference in your life.
- Donate pet food or other supplies to a local animal shelter.
- Hand out bouquets of flowers or leave a bouquet at the hospital—the nurses know who needs it most. 10 extra points if you use flowers from a local flower grower. 10 extra points if you donate paper flowers to a cancer center (Some people can’t be around flowers because of their immune systems). Maximum of 20 extra points.
- Thank the people close to you for simply being who they are.
- Do an act of kindness for yourself.
- Give a big tip at a restaurant.
- Donate blood.
- Hug someone who could use it.
- Donate to a cause you care about.
- Leave extra stamps by the machine at your local post office.
- Publicly bring attention to the accomplishments of someone who deserves recognition.
- Leave a reusable grocery bag in a shopping cart with a note that it is free for the taking.
- Tape cash or a lottery ticket to a gas pump.
- Do a favor without asking anything in return.
- Paint positive words on rocks and place them around town.
- Do something for your dad that he loves. (If your father is no longer with you, do something special in his memory.)
- Go on a walk for 30 minutes and pick up each piece of trash you see.
- Build a free little library for your yard/community or donate books to one nearby.
- Leave heads up pennies on the sidewalk.
- Clean up a mess that isn’t yours.
- Buy food from a local farmer’s market.
- Do chores for a family member who could use some extra time.
- Do something to help the homeless or disadvantaged.
- Offer to take a picture to a couple or group trying to take a selfie.
- Tell a manager about outstanding customer service.
- Send a card to someone. Include a handwritten note.
- Do something with confetti.
- Leave a comment on a social media post. (Just a like doesn’t count!)
- Create a care package for someone.
- Print some photos and send them to the people who are in them.
- Treat someone to coffee, a special treat, lunch, or dinner. (This can be a person you know or a stranger.)
- Leave a treat for your mail carrier or delivery person.
- Ask an older family member to tell you a story about something from his/her life. Write it down or better yet film it for 10 extra points. (maximum 10 extra points)
- Make someone a playlist (or as we used to call them mixtapes).
- Do something kind for a person with a disability (not me!).
- Do something to help the Confetti Foundation, which spreads cheer to children in the hospital on their birthdays.
- Distribute magic wands. (What?!?!?!)
- Do something kind for someone who has cancer or is seriously ill.
- Create your own kindness and do it.
